John Dies at the End

Best movie title ever! That's what director Don Coscarelli thought when he first came across the book. Pretty much the first thing that drew me to this as well. I was so sad when the timing didn't work out for me to be able to catch this at the cinema. I think theater obligations got in the way. But no matter, I thought, the DVD release was soon after.

So I got the DVD, waiting for a clear evening in my schedule and started watching. Some of the opening scenes were pretty cool. A little confusing, but to be expected. There was enough intrigue to keep me going, and just the right level of weird. Then it lost me. I zoned out and couldn't find my way back in. I think I tried some strategic rewind and rewatching, but to no avail. I couldn't stick with it.

It happens. I'd just have to try to watch it again. So now, here I am. At home on a free Saturday night, watching the movie with some excitement and anticipation. Again, I was into it at first. Then I spaced. Again. I really wanted to love it. Maybe I'm too tired. Maybe it's too strange. I don't know what the problem is. Me or the movie. But I think I give up. At least for this round. I guess I"ll just hafta try again later.
