Vacation Catch Up

Just doing a few quick ones to chat about what I saw this past week. In the order I saw them

Harry Potter And the Deathly Hallows Part II
Not much to say about this one that hasn't been said by everyone else in the movie verse. Saw this twice last week. First was the midnight at the IMAX, then again at Grauman's Chinese Theater in LA. Loved it! Very much a perfect ending to a fantastic and loved series.

I really only cared about this one because it was a Boston movie. In that respect, it did well (if you ignore the movie magic-ed shot of the zoo with the Pru and other such buildings in the background, cause um, no, you cant see the skyline from Franklin Park Zoo). It definitely scored some Boston points with the bicycle chase in the Common, even if that was an otherwise unnecessary scene. I did have some problems with a superfluous storyline that could have easily been cut, and the whole thing was rather cliche. But still, I felt it was worth my time. Keep in mind that doesnt necessarily make it worth yours

Winnie the Pooh
This was cute, and I loved some of the animation, but I found it rather boring. On the other hand, the short about the Loch Ness monster before the movie, amazingly adorable!

Captain America: The First Avenger
I wandered down to Hollywood Blvd on Tuesday to find that the world premier of Captain America was happening there that night, so I blew off the rest of my plans and camped outside the theater. Most of the big stars there (Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Robert Downey Jr) passed us by, but I did meet a few of 'em, the biggest (both in name and size) being Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor). He is such a teddy bear. Anyhoo.

Midnighted the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely beats Green Lantern. Unclear if it beats Thor. Better characters than you expect for these films, and as always, ass kicking action.

Friends with Benefits
I find it interesting how the current rom-com trend is the whole fall-in-love-with-your-casual-sex-partner idea. See also No Strings Attached, Love and Other Drugs. But yeah, stronger characters than you'd expect for this type of film. Good comedy and great chemistry. Fantastic cast, including some unexpected but very welcome supporting actors and cameo appearances.
